As a busy single mom, you may not have time to make creations out of fresh fruit to entice your kids to eat more healthily. It is far too tempting to simply grab a bag of chips or crackers on your way out the door. Here are some tips to help you get your kids to eat more fresh fruit.
Make It Accessible
In your home, make fresh fruit that your kids can safely eat, such as apples or bananas, accessible. Put them within reach, and keep them out and visible. Allow your kids to help themselves to fresh fruit. Remember, even if it “spoils” their dinner, it is still giving them the vital nutrients they need.
Make It Convenient
Dried fruits, like raisins, or a bunch of grapes are just as convenient to grab and go as a bag of chips or crackers. Stock up on convenient fruit snacks, but not the sugar-filled gummy fruit snacks. If you have convenient fresh fruit and not other convenience foods, your kids will eat it when they are hungry.
Model Good Eating
Young kids especially gravitate to foods they see their parents enjoying. If your kids catch you truly enjoying fresh fruits, they are going to be more apt to try them. You cannot fake this, so make sure you are consuming your fair share of fresh fruits.
Make up a Salad
Nothing is quite as enticing as the colors of a fresh fruit salad. Yes, this takes a little bit of time to do, but it might just entice your kids to eat a bit more fresh fruit when they can see it all mixed together. Don’t add creams or sugar, but let the fresh fruit stand on its own.

This is great! I agree to all of this suggestions, I am also a mom and I find it really hard to get my children to eat vegetables or fruits. But as we know kids loves enticing and sweet foods, that’s why we really need to add something interesting in preparing fresh fruits.
It’s so true, kids can be such picky eaters! You can get creative, making new and interesting dishes, or you can do what my mom did and get sneaky. She’d take a food processor, and puree up fruits and vegetables and add them to things like alfredo sauce. I only learned a few years ago that every brownie I ate as a child actually had spinach in it! Your kids probably won’t notice, and it’s a great way to get good foods into them!
Great tips. My children and I loves fruit salad. There is always fruit salad in our refrigerator. It is a healthy and delicious dessert and snack for us. Another food or dessert we like is Gelatin. It is easy to make and fun to eat because kids love its different colors and sweet taste.
To make both a little more dessert-y you can always add some lite whipped cream – not too bad for you, and a delicious addition!
Great dessert! I think all children love to eat fruits. My child, from the very start, loved fruits. I think it’s because when he was still a child, I encouraged him to eat it. He definitely grew up healthy!
Dried fruit is my personal favorite way to get my kids to eat fruit – just make sure its a kind that doesn’t have tons of added sugar!
