It is candy season, and everyone is getting ready to go out and collect some sweet treats from their neighbors. Halloween is one of the best times for children, and they look forward to dressing up as their favorite character or hero and walking around their neighborhood.

It is not a big secret that children love candy, and their parents do too. It is common for parents to put their hands in their kids' candy buckets when they go to bed for the night. They may call it the “parent tax,” or a thank-you for taking their kids trick-or-treating for hours.

While we all know that everyone has different tastes regarding their favorite candy and treats, surveys show that there are trends that can be seen by state. According to My Telescope and Guilty Eats, surveys are showing what the best (and worst) candy is by state.

The survey focused on chocolate candies, and they used Google to see what was the most searched-for candy. Not only could they narrow it down by state, but they could also see what is the most popular across the country.

It turns out the leader was Snickers. This was the top favorite of 23 out of 50 states. Snickers is known for its creative commercials, and this may be part of the pull. The survey also found the following information:

  • KitKat and Hershey are in a “battle” for second place; KitKat is the favorite for 6 states, and Hershey’s is the favorite in 5 states.
  • Indiana is the only state that chose Butterfinger as its favorite candy bar.
  • While Twix and Milky Way are liked, Twix beat out Milky Way for most searched.
  • The least searched-for candy bar was Babe Ruth, seems not many like this candy bar.

Now some may not understand how a Google search would equal the favorite chocolate bar, but previous work has shown that there is a correlation between what is searched and how much of that product is purchased in a single area. For the full ranking, you can see it here, but it looks like Snickers is in the lead by far, and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

This may be interesting to go on and see what the most popular candy bar is in your state and see if it is your favorite. These trends are always fun, and they can tell us what everyone is looking forward to seeing the most in the candy basket.
