<![CDATA[How To Help Yourself When You're The Default Parent]]> https://www.moms.com/how-to-help-yourself-when-youre-the-default-parent/ What is a default parent? The default is the parent who does the lion's share of the day-to-day work of parenting. Think of it like the breakfast, lunch, dinner, clean-up, school stuff (which is never-ending sometimes), laundry, homework, jack-of-all-trades parent. Then, there is the backup parent. The backup parent is the one who steps in when the default parent cannot fulfill their duties due to possibly being sick or out of town.

It's normal for moms to feel apprehensive about how those changes might affect their relationship with their child and parenting overall. Tweens begin to seek independence from their parents while focusing more on friendships and interests. This release of control can feel scary for moms as their tween spends more time outside the home. It's also normal to feel emotional when acknowledging your child is no longer your baby, but tweens do still need their moms.
